Friends Village has partnered with Senior Planet from AARP to help older adults use technology to learn new skills, save money, get in shape, and make new friends. Classes are intended for adults age 60 and over. Register below to join the Friends Village community in person and learn how you can stay connected!

Computer Essentials

5-week Course beginning 10/7, Mon & Wed 11:00am-12:15pm

This 5-week course covers the essentials of how to use the basic functions of a personal computer, how to navigate the internet, and how to send and receive email. By the end of the course, you’ll have a foundation for using a computer and the internet to enrich your life.  Prerequisites: A Gmail address. Though this course is best suited for people who have had some experience using the internet on any device, help can be provided for those with less experience. Smartphones At A Glance, Lecture

How smart are they? We'll tell you all about smartphones.

If you’re curious about what smartphones can do and why they’ve grown so popular, come to this lecture. You’ll learn about popular smartphones on the market and some of their pros and cons. We’ll also compare and contrast two of the most popular operating systems: Android and Apple’s iOS.

Google Photos, Workshop

Learn to use Google Photos, the popular photo sharing and cloud storage platform, to back-up your photos and create albums.

Google Photos is one of the most popular photo sharing and cloud storage platforms. This hands-on workshop explores some of the basic features of the Google Photos app and will walk you through the steps of backing up your photos on your smartphone or mobile device to Google Photos. You'll also learn how to create an album and share it.

Prerequisites: You must have a Gmail address.Bring your Gmail username and password and be ready to sign in during the workshop.

Sharing Photos with a Smartphone, Workshop

Monday 11/18 11:00am-12:15pm

In this hands-on workshop you will practice several ways to share photos with a smartphone. Learn how to share photos via text messages and email directly from your phone. The workshop will also go over how to share photos on social media apps like Facebook and Twitter.

Prerequisites: To participate in this workshop, you must bring your own smartphone. Workshop materials will include step-by-step instructions for iPhones and Samsung phones.

Smartphone Camera Uses Beyond Photography

Come learn about QR codes and more!

Join us to learn about additional ways you can use your smartphone's camera beyond photography! We'll explore a variety of fun and useful features made possible by apps, such as scanning QR codes, translating text, measuring objects, and even using augmented reality. We'll also cover considerations for choosing apps and reviewing their privacy and data practices.
